***Note*** I have been absent for a while, and I intend to continue with my random ramblings about games that I like stay tuned for more!

I own quite a few fighting games, they're great for parties.
I own: Soul Calibur 3 & 4
Street Fighter 4
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (yea, I know it sucked, they offered me like 5 bucks for a trade in)
and Mortal Kombat 9

Let me get this out of the way first, I am no fanboy. I understand that the DC crossover was a stupid idea, and the game itself was actually pretty shit. I understand that the old games basically retextured the same character model over and over again due to space limitations.
lets get to the good part, shall we?
Why is MK9 awesome? one would think that fighting games have no place in the modern era of gaming, what with all these new advances in storytelling and gameplay! but in there lies the answer.

The Development Team behind Mortal Kombat 9 decided that the were too cool for all these advances and ripoffs or popular franchises, and instead decided to essentially remake the old trilogy, but with a twist!
The funny thing about Mortal Kombat was that it started out in a controversy about violence in video games, because of some immature violence (it didn't even have blood yet guys!). the part that i find funny is that now I am literally tearing out a High Definition heart and crushing it with realistic squishing sounds, and nobody seems to give a shit.

wow, I am a few paragraphs in and I haven't even discussed the main point, wow I'm a sloppy writer.
Here we go, why is Mortal Kombat 9 awesome?
because it knows its audience, and it knows it well.
would anybody buy a Mortal Kombat game if there was no blood, no swearing, and all of the female characters were wearing clothes? NO, why?
BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T BE MORTAL KOMBAT!

the dev team understands what its audience wants, even if they are too ashamed to admit it.

We want lengthy Fatalities so we can laugh at our stupid ass friends for failing so hard
We want a loosely relevant plot to get a break between fights, get a soda or take a bite of a sandwich
And although we all might be too mature to admit it, but we want to RIP JADES FUCKING SPINE OUT!

Sure, I'm into some mature games, I like Mass Effect, I like Okami, and InFamous, but sometimes I want to say "fuck maturity, why is everything so desensitized, lets go horribly murder something!"

Mortal kombat is not for everyone however. It makes a good party game, but the computer opponents get boring after a while.
